For me, the weekend has helped pull together a range of different theories/ideas (EMDR, dissociated parts, IFS, body based skills/resources and polyvagal theory) and helped me see how these can be integrated even in the space of one session with a client. I feel I have a much deeper understanding of trauma, especially trauma of omission.

I like Mary Clare’s conceptualisation of ‘parts’ – I was trying to incorporate IFS but it doesn’t sit right with me and previous EMDR/IFS training has seemed a bit formulaic. Thinking in terms of dissociation, fragments, flashbacks, feelings – all shut in a cupboard in childhood just works, for me and clients.

Mary Clare’s passion for this subject really brought the workshop to life.

It was a good combination of theory and practice. I thought the breathing, body work and visualisations were great. I really appreciated knowing exactly how you talk to the parts and seeing this demonstrated. I’ve learned about parts over the years but how you actually work with a client in the room is harder. It’s helpful to know how you do this in a safe, contained way. It was very helpful learning how to integrate the parts into the present adult. I feel I’ve been missing this part in the work I do with clients.

I have gained a thorough understanding of complex trauma and how to work with it.

The experiential exercises felt very thought-through – I felt safe and held. It was good to be able to work with peers – and notice how powerful this is (in just 10 minutes).

It feels like simply better psychotherapy, not only trauma work.

Wonderfully gentle and elegant method of working with parts; the sequences I absorbed and used in our final exercise felt powerful and effective.

I feel I gained more clarity into how to integrate the EMDR Attachment Focused model into working with dissociated parts.

Healing Complex Trauma integrates a neurobiologically informed understanding of trauma, dissociation and attachment with a practical approach to treatment, all communicated in straightforward language accessible to both client and therapist.

This beautifully presented workshop took me to a new place and enabled me to recognise indicators, triggers and behaviours, understand the impact of trauma and ego states across all developmental domains, and explore strategies to effectively work with clients who have experienced trauma.

Teaching and facilitation were very clear and concise. I also enjoyed and appreciated the therapy session example.

Your course is wonderful, you have managed to weave together so many aspects of the trauma-informed approaches, the theory and the practice in a way that is accessible, creative and healing. As well as that, you create a warm loving holding group experience that is healing in itself, modelling a way of being that is crucial in our work with traumatised clients.

I enjoyed how thorough you were in your explanation of complex trauma, how it works and how it can be healed. I liked the mix of ‘theory’ and experiential work.

I’m still processing the weekend. Very rich indeed, without being overwhelming or triggering. The perfect atmosphere was created for maximum absorption.

I have to say I’ve been using so much of what you taught us this week with my clients and it’s been really transformative. I do often find reading about trauma traumatising in itself – so it was interesting to note that my experience was that I’d been on more of a spa weekend than a trauma weekend. I think there’s something here about how reassuring it can be to work with competence, confidence and heart.
